Buying Tires for Ford Trucks
This story covers 2 things:
I purchased a brand new 2004 Ford F-150 from All Star Ford here in Baton Rouge.(actually it was the Prairieville location but same thing) I got a pretty good price on the vehicle at the time but the value went straight down as soon as the price of oil went all to hell. This is my first truck to own so I had alot to learn about driving a truck including how important proper inflation of tires is. My tires ran on low air pressure for like two weeks due to my own stupidity so I only got about 20,000 miles on them. Absolutely horrible and when you buy a new vehicle from a dealership thats one of the only things thats all on you. So I go over to the local Sears auto center since I've been buying Sears tires forever. A nice $750 lesson on why you should manage your tires carefully on a truck. In addition to that I also learned that you need to check everything about a new truck's equipment when buying a new vehicle form a car dealership. My tires were a shorter tire that isn't the standard size for my Ford F-150. The car salesman most likely doesn't know or care that something like this is the case so you have to watch your back. I say this because despite the great deal on my truck I kind of got stiffed on the proper equipment with those shorter tires. I'm happier with the look of my truck now that I see it with taller tires. That was a tough one. My previous vehicles had all been small sports cars that were easier to maintain. I didn't realize a truck would eat through tires like that and now I'll be extra careful. Jerry Odom - May 21, 2006 |
