City of Baton Rouge

A 7 day guide to Baton Rouge Entertainment

Alot of people always say there isn't anything to do around here and, well, for the most part they're right. However there is always a best thing to do around here and most nights it isn't that bad. As a matter of fact with the renovations to downtown and the opening of a few large new places its becoming bareable. I prefer a nice place with good bartenders, a social atmosphere and sometimes some good TVs for sports.(if at all possible with a decent drink special) I don't like havens for college kids or degenerates or places where you see alot of kids. I like the young yet professional atmosphere when I can and elsewise just give me a decent band with a decent crowd. So here is my Monday through Sunday for the city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I know for a fact that this is a short list because I don't go everywhere. I explore but for the most part I stay regular to places that I like.

Basic Baton Rouge:
  1. If you're country/redneckish go to Texas Club, Triple A bar or one of the various daiquiris joints.
  2. If you're kind of trendy think Downtown area.
  3. if you're 18-24 think Tigerland by LSU.
  4. If you just want to relax regardless of who you are think Champp's, Fox n Hound, The Chimes East
Baton Rouge Daily Entertainment:

Monday:
  • Caterie - Monday night band.

Tuesday:
  • Champp's - This is their martini night. They have cheap martinis for the ladies and where they go the men follow so its always a decent crowd.
  • Tsunami's - Tsunami's has a great drink special on Tuesdays. I can't remember the specifics but wine and vodka type drinks were not expensive. I can go to this place any night of the week.
  • Hooter's Trivia Night - A pretty fun thing to do for a Tuesday night.

Wednesday:
  • Champp's - karaoke night at Champp's. I usually go play a poker game before going have a few beers at Champp's. Great night.
  • Belle of Baton Rouge Casino Poker Night - Weds is one of my favorite nights to play at the Belle. Its a fun game and the wait isn't too long.
  • Duvic's Martini Bar - A good place to go have drinks and socialize. Its probably good other nights but this is the only night I go here. Best a little early until about 8.

Thursday:
  • Everywhere - I say everywhere because there are alot of people out just about everywhere on Thursday night. I guess people just like going out hung over.
  • Sullivan's Ring Side - This place has been doing it big on Thursdays for a while now. They have a good Martini special and a little bit of an older crowd.
  • Superior Grill - The Thursday night thing for many years now. From about 3 in the evening until about 8 this is where its at. Afterwards people head over to place like the Station for a later night.

Friday: - Downtown
  • Tsunami's - I've been going over here while Downtown live was going on the street below. They've got that great atmosphere that they're quickly coming to be known for and they attract a nice crowd.
  • Capitol City Grill Downtown - A beautiful place right down on the street. I'm not sure if its part of the Shaw center or not but its right there next to Tsunami's and Roux house.

Saturday: - Downtown
  • Sogo Live(early) - I say early because they've got an 8-11 $1 drink special. I've been pleasently suprised at how little money I spent here the nights I was here. They also have really good DJ who plays alot of modern techno thats really good to chill and drink to.
  • Roux House - This place is always a good time but its kind of small. Still worth checking out if you want something fun to do.
  • The Planetarium & Theatre - Baton Rouge has a big new planetarium and theatre. On weekends they put on choreographed computer graphics shows.

Sunday
  • Alligator Bayou Bar - The one and only thing to do late at night on Sunday. Go out there about 10:30 at night and they've got a decent regular band and a large crowd.
  • Poker Tournament at Belle of Baton Rouge - If you can get up early in the morning a poker tournament for $40 is played every Sunday.
