C# and Job Hunting
Took a test and have 4 interviews
|
As most everyone knows I've been job hunting for a developers job in Baton
Rouge. I've been working overtime on my proficiency in C#, .NET, ASP.NET,
VB.NET, etc ever since I found out I'd have to find new employment. As I've
stated before almost everyone is looking for .NET style developers. Well
today I actually got to test my knowledge with an online test provided to me
by a recruiter. Here are the results...
I'm Proficient in C#
Score: 3.02 / 5
Percentile: Scored higher than 47% of previous examinees
Account Percentile: Scored higher than 62% of 7850 examinees within this
account
Proficiency Level: Proficient
Demonstrates a solid understanding of core concepts within this topic. Appears
capable of working on most projects in this area with moderate assistance. May
require some initial assistance with advanced concepts, however.
Strong Areas:
- Object-Oriented Programming
- Value and Reference Types
- Methods
- Properties, Indexers, and Fields
Weak Areas:
- Grammar
- Developing Data Consumers and Services
I normally would be destroyed about coming out in the middle of the field but
I'm very happy with the results considering that I haven't been dedicated to
learning this language for very long. Prior to a month ago I'd purchased Visual
Studio 2005 and a book on the subject but had almost no time to further my
knowledge on use of the environment. Since the first week of January its been my
focus along with trying to find where my career will be going. So in a month of
real study I've gone from theoretical knowledge to proficient. I should get into
the top 20% in the next month or so. Good news for me.

5 total interviews this week
Most of my time has been answering questions, faxing, filling out forms, etc
for recruiters and hiring managers of various companies. This week I
actually get to talk to them. I've already had one interview that was very
fun and I felt it went well.(I have to wait to hear back from the recruiter)
But starting tomorrow I've got an interview a day all the way until
Saturday. I should be an expert at explaining my history and career
objectives by Saturday afternoon.
Only 1 not .NET
I'm suprised that I even have 1 interview that is non-.NET related this
week. Almost everyone calling me is looking for .NET developers and these
interviews are the result. Shows you that almost all new development in the
Baton Rouge area is .NET based.
Well back to work...
