Traveled To Auburn For The Game

lsu Some friends of mine and I made the trip to Auburn, Alabama this past weekend to cheer on the LSU Tigers football game in one of the biggest match ups in the history of LSU vs. Auburn football games. It was a great time and a good experience despite the fact that the LSU Tigers didn't pull out the victory this time.

The game day was beautiful clear weather that wasn't too unbearably hot. We went out to Auburn campus and met up with a few friends of my friend who spent some time at Auburn years back. We spent alot of the day walking around the beautiful Auburn campus and talking with other fans about what we all felt about the game. From both LSU and Auburn fans it was uncertainty since we all knew both teams are the real deal. Auburn fans have to be given their dues, they're much nicer than LSU fans when visitors come to our campus!

Auburn's pre-game show is pretty good with the huge bald eagle flying around the stadium before landing on the university logo at center field. The band plays and does their pre-game then their team comes out in a pretty neat maneuver involving the band and cheerleaders.(see pictures below)

After kickoff the game felt like it was over seconds after it started. We stood, we cheered and went crazy the entire game as both teams struggled back and forth on offense to try and take advantage. LSU's defense kept their fans and their team in the game all the way until the end. LSU's offense just couldn't get the ball into the endzone. Partially because of execution of the run game and partially because of a few major calls by the referees.

There were a few big plays involving the referees that alot of people argue shouldn't matter:

  • Jacob Hester's catch that was ruled a fumble out of bounds and then overturned even though everyone watching the tape felt it was a catch.
  • Pass Interference on Auburn during the second to last drive for LSU that was overturned by the referees.
  • Pass Interference called on Daniel Francis of LSU on 3rd and 29.

While you can't blame the referees for LSU's inability to score during the game all the big calls went Auburns way. This effected the outcome of the game. I was in the stands and I don't recall one time when the Auburn fans came down on the referees for bad calls. All the stories in the news say nothing about calls that went LSU's way because there were none! But thats college football and it was just Auburns year for the rivalry!

Post game we were all exhausted. We headed back to the car, said good game to all the Auburn fans celebrating and called it a night. Slept about 12 hours then drove home. All in all it was a great experience that I'll definitely take part in again. I'm still very confident that the LSU Tigers will fight their way back into the top 5 and into a major bowl game! With a little luck and help from other SEC teams maybe into the SEC championship.
