Historic Events of 2005
What will history books remember?
What will end up being the most historic events of the year 2005? People in
news enjoy talking about whats popular or in style but to me thats not
really interesting. Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Jessica & Nick, Cindy
Sheehan, Hurricanes Katrina & Rita, Princes of England, Saddam Hussein? None
of these will be of particular use in 100 years and most will be about as
well known as someone like Benadict Franklin or Ethan Allen. I want to think
about what people might remember. What might be pertinent to the history of
22nd Century humans?
China's second manned space mission to me was a very significant for
human history. Human space flight is huge in the memories of all people so
the Chinese pushing forward is sure to jump start the USA who have been
struggling to get back on track since our space flight disaster. Another
space race so as people move forward into space and hopefully soon to Mars.
Saturn's moon Titan
was landed on and studied. This is important because other than Mars, Titan
is the only other object with any kind of possibility for life. Titan's
atmosphere contains organic marterial such as methane and has the
possibility to support other forms of organic life. I theorize that one day
Titan will be studied by humans in some sort of "space station" environment
as will the Moon and Mars.
Iran announces
publicly it will continue its nuclear program. Though its officially for
domestic power we all know they're in it as much for the weapons part of the
program. This will be huge for yet unseen reasons but tensions between
Isreal and Iran still exist. In addition Iran has been in a state of
political turmoil since their revolution so it becomes much more possible
that extremists could gain access.
Hurricane Katrina
will without a doubt be remembered for a long time in the United States. It
exposed corrupt aspects in US government and weak points in US
infrastructure. It may also greatly effect weather prediction and protection
technology studies as the Tsunami of late 2004.
Asian Tsunami fallout from the great disaster on December 26,2004 will
most likely go down as a marker for early 2005. The amount of damage and the
huge humanitarian effort to safe the survivors. I think this will be
remembered as a time when people started to come together for the common
good of all humans.
Islamic immigration throughout Western Europe and increased friction
between those immigrants and natives will undoubtedly be remembered. I
believe we've only seen the tip of the iceberg in that area as Muslims
branch out further from their Middle Eastern home. I think 2005 will be seen
as a starting point in respect to Islamic friction with the riots in France
and British problems.
Pope John Paul II passes away. After a long and very active run at pope.
John Paul II traveled more than any other pope, was involved in the cold war
and improved religious ties with other major religions.
In progress...
