Myspace.com sucks down more bandwidth and
wastes more time than any other online tool I've ever seen. Today I went
into a coffee shop to work on some work related stuff. (This is common for
me as I have to change venue in my line of work to avoid going mad. Yes
believe it or not I get paid to basically surf the Internet and tinker with
simple seeming applications that very few people actually understand.) The
Internet was at an absolute crawl as no fewer than a dozen LSU students were
sitting around browsing Myspace rather than do their math, science,
whatever. I know this because when I gave up trying to get any meaningful
work done I walked through the coffee shop.
12 of 17 Notebook Computers @ Myspace I couldn't believe what I saw! I counted and literally there were 12 of 17 notebooks that I saw at some sort of a Myspace browse page. Whats worse than this is that they were all hogging so much of the available network capacity at Charlie's Coffee on Coursey in Baton Rouge that they had to spend an insane amount of time waiting for the pages to load. I can't imagine what the request log for Myspace looks like. It must seem like a never ending denial of service attack. Myspace Sucks and Wastes Time I myself use Myspace because some of my friends spend so much time on their system that you can't contact them elsewhere. All these people do is sit on Myspace and do nothing. No buying, no researching and simply goofing off. This has been reflecting in that Myspace makes very little money for the size of the audience they hold. I hope this fad falls off so that I can get back to working in coffee shops. Until then I'll have to settle for Smoothie shops which provide free Internet as well.(lets hope the stupid college students don't figure that out.) |
